The 4th race of the 2017 NASCAR Sirius XM Cup Series was at Fontana, California for the Auto Club 400. Michel who was 2nd for majority of the race, came on pit lane early along with Daytona 500 Champion Cydney Dautzenburg to try and beat the leader, but a caution came out that involved Pira McShane and KJ Adams. On a restart with 4 laps to go, Gavin Marshall dived underneath Faircloth and took the lead on the back straightaway and never looked back.
